The sidestrap in bikinis emerges in the early 1970s as the waistline descends toward the legline and the side of the brief becomes narrower. Straps have been an integral variable of swimwear for a long time, but this didn’t happened in the beginning. Before the 1970s, strap role was confined to the pinup images. The first example is Brigitte Bardot in the 1952 French film Manina, La Fille Sans Voiles which we presented here. Ursula Andress is another 1950s adopter. In the early 1960s Natalie Wood  is one of the few brave enough to wear in a fotoshooting session V-bikinis. 

The almost accidental discovery of the narrow sidestrap provoked an immediate reconciliation with the halter and bra strap. Ursula Andress demonstrates this fashion mix in the fist James Bond movie.

In the third episode, a girl named Mara played by Sophia Loren is a demimondaine who service a variety of high class clients including Augusto (Marcello Mastroianni), the wealthy, powerful and neurotic son of a Bologna industrialist. Mara’s neighbours have a grandson who studies for the priesthood but is not yet ordained and falls in love with Mara. As the story goes on between Mara, her client and the young priest, Mara vows to set the young man on the path of righteousness back to the seminary and enlists the reluctant Augusto into the French Foreigh Legion.

To achieve her plan Mara provides a striptease dance. This scene is Sophia Loren’s most memorable scene in her filmography. The actress wears a full undergarment outfit consisting of a push-up bra, brief, short zipped lace bustier with detachable garters, lace robe all under a  satin wrap around dress with small patterns. Click  here to see something similar made by I.D. After weeks of bra wars led by a tiny group of determined factory workers in a rural town in central France, women’s underwear has been catapulted to the heart of the French election campaign. Lingerie has become the symbol of all that is wrong with the country’s economy. The lowly paid “fairy fingers” of an underwear factory in Yssingeaux waged war against plans to shut their factory and outsource to Tunisia their intricate job of stitching straps, cups and hooks for a French lingerie brand.

The battle of 90 mostly middle-aged women and three men in pink and white striped overalls gripped France. They became a symbol not just of French fears over rising unemployment, which is at a 12-year high of nearly 10%, with one million more unemployed than when Sarkozy took office five years ago. Themed “Next Generation of Eco-friendly Lingerie Fashion,” this year’s symposium which takes place in Hong-Kong,  brought together some 150 local and overseas lingerie experts to share their insights and experiences. Innovations in design and technology are important for the new development of sustainable fashion for the benefit of the global lingerie market. Cindy Gallop grew up in Brunei, Borneo, began collecting after moving to London, where she joined the BBH ad agency, overseeing campaigns for Johnny Walker and Levi’s. Along the way, she acquired 250-plus pairs of designer stilettos, a framed AK-47 stamped with the Chanel logo and a gold-painted Gucci chain saw (both by artist Peter Gronquist), a black leather Gucci spanking paddle, a pink-and-yellow YSL light installation, and a black leather YSL bustier that she wears on special occasions.

She declared once that “Tom Ford is my god. He designed for strong, confident, sexy women. I like to stand out and make a statement.”

And this is how her apartment feels too. She wanted to seal a deal when a men enters her apartment in just two minutes. And the designers received the request to transform her flat into a Shanghai night club. Designed by The Apartment, an NYC Soho interiors-oriented agency, this space went from a derelict ex-YMCA pool with showers to an amazing dark space that looks as if it might be open for some late-night business.

Well, how men and women choose their undergarment changed a lot since the XVIIth century when the chemise was the must have item of all the classes and all the genders. Nowadays the chemise is a women only item and we make the best of it. We keep on creating these chemises for those true ladies who want to add a little bit of sexiness and personality to their undergarment.

“Our Blushing Brides” was released in 1930. It features Joan Crawford, Robert Montgomery, Anita Page, and Dorothy Sebastian. The film was a follow-up to “Our Dancing Daughters” (1928) and “Our Modern Maidens” (1929), and was a commercial success when it was released.

The two previous movies were both silent films, while “Our Blushing Brides” had the novelty of being an early sound film or “talked movie” at a time when the technology was relatively new.

In this scene, Joan Crawford plays Gerry, a shopgirl in love with the heir to a department store where she works. Gerry takes part in the shop’s bridal lingerie show and tries to keep herself virtuous as she is approached by a wealthy gentlmen and the heir she loves. Gerry wears  under a wrapped around embroidered satin robe short embroidered satin and lace underskirt with a stretch silk satin bra.
